FAQ
A few common questions.
No bad questions. If yours isn't here, message us on LinkedIn.
- Do I have to be in cyber security to come?
- Anyone genuinely interested in the field is welcome. The room is mostly working cyber security and privacy folks (defenders, builders, GRC, students, founders, researchers, lawyers), with career-curious folks and people switching in from other disciplines mixed in. The one thing that doesn't fit is treating the room as a sales funnel. If you're shopping vendors for your AppSec budget, that's not us.
- Is there a talk or schedule?
- We pick a topic ahead of time as a starting point. No talks, no slides, no schedule. The room takes it from there. People split into small conversations, drift between them, and leave when they want.
- How do I RSVP?
- Through Luma. New invites go out about a week before each chat. RSVP early so we know to expect you.
- What if I can't make it after RSVPing?
- Life happens. Just unregister on Luma when you know, so someone on the waitlist can take the spot. A quick heads-up beats a no-show.
- Can my company sponsor?
- WSC is unsponsored on purpose, and we'd like to keep it that way. The best ways to support the community are to suggest a topic and bring a colleague.
- Can I pitch my startup or talk about hiring?
- One-on-one, absolutely. That's how most hiring around here actually happens. Just keep it conversational and skip the room-wide pitch.
- Is it kid-friendly, pet-friendly, partner-welcome?
- Partners and friends are welcome, we love meeting people in your orbit. For kids and pets, it's a coffee shop on Saturday afternoon, so use judgment based on what the room (and the café) can handle. The conversation is the draw, not the venue.
- I have a topic idea.
- Love that. Head to Topics and suggest it once you're signed in. The community votes on what shows up next, and we work the top ones into upcoming chats.
